Chang the name

I need to change the name of my blog. I've lost interest in fitness and nutrition and guess what....I'm down a little more than 20 lbs. This year has been a good one so far, I've been crazy busy but it's been good. All I've done to lose the weight is slow down, I eat a lot slower so I don't eat as much. I really don't think about food much and that's been really nice.

So I'm going to change the name and see if I can get back into blogging.

My new philosophy

Handle every situation like a dog. If you can't eat it or hump it, piss on it and walk away!

Thursday

I’m wasting time at work going through 200 GB of music adding album artwork, lyrics and double checking all other details, I may be finished in about 20 yrs.

Food, water and exercise remain steady, life is good!

Wednesday

Yesterday was a crazy busy day at work. I went off-call and completely crashed last night, I think I slept a good 10 hours. I feel so much better today.

Food and water have been OK, I could be doing better but I like not stressing it. I’m still doing Wii Fit every morning and have yet to get tired of it. The Wii has been a good investment for us, it’s turned out to be one of those things that the whole family likes to do. I have become slightly obsessed with my Wii!

Monday

Good Monday Morning! I didn’t mean to drop off the radar the last few days, I’ve just been swamped with work (oncall stinks).

Wii Fit continues to be my main form of exercise and a lot of fun. It certainly doesn’t give you the workout you get from going to the gym and lifting but it gets your heart rate up, incorporates a lot of stretching and is just plain old fun. Bottom line is it’s something I enjoy doing.

Food has been good, I’m focusing on portion size and that seems to be working for me. I’m drinking water like crazy with this Texas heat and just have iced tea occasionally.

All in all things have been really good. How is everyone else doing?

Thursday

This morning got off to a rough start. I was on the phone with work on a support call most of the morning and didn’t get a chance to do my Wii Fit. No worries though, I’ll do it tonight before we go on our walk. Meals won’t be perfect today since I didn’t pack my lunch but I’ll be able to make a decent choice in the cafeteria.

How’s everyone else today?

Wednesday

I stayed up too late last night watching the Olympics so I didn’t get up as early as I should have but I still did Wii Fit (man is it fun). Breakfast is fixed, lunch is packed and I’ve taken some mahi-mahi out of the freezer for supper. Today is off to a great start!

Tuesday

Wii Fit done, breakfast made and lunch packed; today is off to a good start!

Yesterday was a good day; I exercised, drank my water and food choices were good. I already feel better and seem to have more energy; so much of healthy living is mental. If you can get your mind in the right place everything else just seems to follow.

How is everyone else this morning?

Monday

We were at a soccer tournament all weekend, our daughter's team won in a shootout! It was a lot of fun but really hot, the car said the temperature was 108. Since we were at soccer all weekend I didn't have time to go to the grocery store so that's high on my list today. I've already planned what we are having this week and I have most of it but I need to go to the grocery store for a few things. I've already done Wii Fit this morning and will go for a walk/run tonight. I've been out of the office for a little over a week so I'm sure I'll be swamped at work today but at least that will make the day go by faster.

What do all of you have going on today?

On Hold

Posting has been put on hold for awhile; our family has suffered a huge loss. My dad, one of the greatest men I have ever known passed away suddenly Sunday morning. Please keep our family in your prayers as we learn to live with this huge hole in our lives.

Thank you,

George Carlin Dead at Age 71

George Carlin, the dean of counterculture comedians whose biting insights on life and language were immortalized in his "Seven Words You Can Never Say On TV" routine, died of heart failure Sunday.

Carlin constantly pushed the envelope with his jokes, particularly with the "Seven Words" routine. When he uttered all seven at a show in Milwaukee in 1972, he was arrested for disturbing the peace.

When the words were played on a New York radio station, they resulted in a Supreme Court ruling in 1978 upholding the government's authority to sanction stations for broadcasting offensive language.

"So my name is a footnote in American legal history, which I'm perversely kind of proud of," he told The Associated Press earlier this year.

He produced 23 comedy albums, 14 HBO specials, three books, a couple of TV shows and appeared in several movies. Carlin hosted the first broadcast of "Saturday Night Live" and noted on his Web site that he was "loaded on cocaine all week long."

Carlin was born May 12, 1937 and grew up in the Morningside Heights section of Manhattan, raised by a single mother. After dropping out of high school in the ninth grade, he joined the Air Force in 1954. He received three court-martials and numerous disciplinary punishments, according to his official Web site.

While in the Air Force he started working as an off-base disc jockey at a radio station in Shreveport, La., and after receiving a general discharge in 1957, took an announcing job at WEZE in Boston.

"Fired after three months for driving mobile news van to New York to buy pot," his Web site says.

From there he went on to a job on the night shift as a deejay at a radio station in Forth Worth, Texas. Carlin also worked variety of temporary jobs including a carnival organist and a marketing director for a peanut brittle.

In 1960, he left with a Texas radio buddy, Jack Burns, for Hollywood to pursue a nightclub career as comedy team Burns & Carlin. Things didn't congeal, and soon both performers went their separate ways.

In the mid 1960s, Carlin began building a following with appearances on variety programs, delivering soon-to-be classic routines about Indian war parties ("You wit' the beads...get outta line"), crack-brained deejays ("Wonderful WINO....") and Al Sleet, the Hippie-Dippie weather man.

Carlin's performances became renowned for their unpredictability in the 1970s and early 1980s; sometimes he'd stalk off in the middle of the act if the laughs weren't there, other times he'd verbally abuse the audience, and still other times he wouldn't show up at all. By the mid 1980s, he had cleaned up his personal act (if not his public one).

But even with his decidedly adult-comedy bent, Carlin never lost his childlike sense of mischief, even voicing kid-friendly projects like episodes of the TV show "Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends" and the spacey Volkswagen bus Fillmore in the 2006 Pixar hit "Cars."

Carlin's first wife, Brenda, died in 1997. He is survived by wife Sally Wade; daughter Kelly Carlin McCall; son-in-law Bob McCall; brother Patrick Carlin; and sister-in-law Marlene Carlin.

Harvey Korman

Harvey Herschel Korman
Feb. 15, 1927 - May 29, 2008

Harvey Korman, the tall, versatile comedian who won four Emmys for his outrageously funny contributions to “The Carol Burnett Show” and played a conniving politician to hilarious effect in “Blazing Saddles,” died Thursday. He was 81.

On television, Burnett and Korman developed into the perfect pair with their burlesques of classic movies such as “Gone With the Wind” and soap operas like “As the World Turns” (their version was called “As the Stomach Turns”).

Burnett was devastated by Korman’s death, said her assistant, Angie Horejsi.

“She loved Harvey very much,” Horejsi said.

“A world without Harvey Korman — it’s a more serious world,” Mel Brooks told the AP on Thursday. “It was very dangerous for me to work with him because if our eyes met we’d crash to floor in comic ecstasy. It was comedy heaven to make Harvey Korman laugh.”

Homestead Heritage

Yesterday we visited an organic farm, Homestead Heritage and had a blast.

We have another farm that we buy raw dairy products from, Sand Creek Farm. We ordered a side of organic grass feed beef from Sand Creek and Homestead Heritage did the processing of the steer, yesterday was when we picked it up.

This was our first time to visit Homestead Heritage, they have all kinds of demonstrations; blacksmiths, furniture makers, pottery, organic herb and vegetable gardens, livestock, and not to mention all of the different classes you can sign up for. It’s a really cool place.

They have a Gristmill where you can buy fresh stone-ground grains. We bought;
Sifted Red Wheat Flour
Whole White Wheat Flour
Yellow Cornmeal
Homestead Porridge
, its corn grits, cracked wheat and rice.
Oatmeal Raisin cookie Mix, its rolled oats, sucanat, whole wheat pastry flour, raisins, spices, baking soda and salt
Whole Wheat Biscuit Mix, its whole and sifted red wheat flours, baking powder and salt

They also make their own cheese. We bought;
Southwest Leicester Cheese
Chipotle’n Berry Jack Cheese
Horseradish Pecan Cheddar Cheese

All in all it was a perfect day, the kids had fun, we got some amazing beef, fresh grains, new cheeses to try, and we even bought some hand made soap. It was a great way for the family to spend a Saturday.

Photobucket
I’m back in the office and have a bad case of the “I don’t want too’s.” I have a ton of stuff that I need to get done (hello, expense reports for 4 wks) but all I’ve managed to do is surf the Internet. It’s dark and rainy today and I can hear my bed calling my name, I think I need a day off to catch up on sleep and just unwind. I think I’ll make it through today but who knows about tomorrow!

Just in case…

…Anyone was wondering what’s been going on and why I’ve been MIA; I’ve been in Longmont, CO for the last three weeks working my butt off and just haven’t had the time or energy to post. I’ve got one (hopefully) more week and then I’ll be home for awhile.

Longmont is a beautiful town but we’ve been working from 5:00 am till around midnight each night, that doesn’t leave much time for anything.

I haven’t been posting as much this year because I’m limiting my online time. I tend to spend too much time just sitting in front of the computer and time gets away from me. This is part of my strategy to find more me time and to do more things for myself. So far so good.

Good and Bad Choices

Yesterday was a mix of good and bad choices. Breakfast was a good choice. I managed to skip the Starbucks at the airport, very good choice. Lunch at Panera Bread, I did my homework and knew what to order before I got there, another very good choice. Water intake was low, bad choice but I did manage to stay away from any soda which I tend to drink a lot of while traveling, good choice.

Dinner at a local draft house last night, there were limited healthy choices on the menu but I skipped all of them and went with the nachos which was one of the worst choices I could have made, very very bad choice. On the positive side I did manage to keep from eating all of them, I ate about 1/4th of them and then had the waitress take them, that’s better. I did have one beer but I’m OK with that, I don’t really consider that good or bad. Overall yesterday was an improvement from previous travel days.

That’s it for now….I’m out.

Tomorrow is my first business trip of the year. I’ll be in Colorado until Monday and I’m a little worried. I’ve never managed to eat well while traveling; I don’t seem to have much control when eating out. This trip I’m going to focus on making better choices at restaurants, I’m looking up nutrition information on the Internet before we go to a restaurant so I can make a more informed choice. Also if I decide what I’m going to eat before I get to the restaurant I won’t be as tempted by the menu.

Here’s to better choices!

Have a great day, I’m out.
